Where to stay at Cradle Mountain

Tasmania’s finest alpine scenery is found in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. The dominating feature is Cradle Mountain, named for the distinct shape of its dolerite peaks. Beneath, a glacially shaped wonderland unfurls, with deep river gorges, reflecting lakes, moss-draped cool-temperate rainforests and wombat-frequented moorlands.
Hiking is the name of the game here. The boardwalk along the glacial Dove Lake makes the most famous perspective of Cradle Mountain accessible to everyone. A varied network of trails means you can easily build on that, whether you have a day or a week to spare. The biggest undertaking is the mammoth Overland Track, which connects with Lake St Clair.
Located in the national park’s north, Cradle Mountain is accessed through Cradle Mountain Village. Blending into the wilderness, it provides a visitor centre and overnight options ranging from unpowered campsites to luxurious cabins — plus even more trails, if you just can’t get enough of that epic landscape.
