The best times to visit Shark Bay are April and May as well as September and October, boasting ideal holiday weather. And don’t worry: The famous dolphins of Monkey Mia splash in these enchanting blue waters year round.
April–May
Temperatures in the upper 20s make for both pleasant land-based adventures, maybe targeting Australia’s westernmost Steep Point or Francois Peron National Park, and delightful lazy beach days. Although cyclones are rare, April marks the end of Shark Bay’s cyclone season.
June–August
These months constitute Shark Bay’s winter season, but with the mercury hovering around the lower 20s, the conditions are ideal for hiking and paddling expeditions. Be sure to pack an extra layer for cooler evenings, though.
September–October
Visit Shark Bay in September or October to take advantage of gorgeous weather: What’s there not to like about sunny days in the mid 20s?
November–March
It’s a good thing two thirds of the Shark Bay region is covered with water – you can always cope with its sizzling summer days, often punching well above 30 degrees. Relax on the beach in Monkey Mia during those unforgiving midday hours and schedule Francois Peron National Park for early or late in the day. While cyclones are infrequent, the season officially kicks off in November.
