Playing, learning, and tasting are on the cards at The Ginger Factory, which is dedicated to, you guessed it, all things ginger. The result is an invigorating experience that delights every generation.
All aboard the train
Embracing ginger comes in various ways at the Ginger Factory, the amusement park-like home of Buderim Ginger. The deal: Visitors can enter for free, appreciating the nine-hectare rainforest-graced grounds and taking advantage of the play areas for kids. However, a purchased ticket is needed for centerpiece rides and experiences.
Pull out your wallet to go for a 15-minute ride around the complex with the open-carriage train Moreton, which shares ginger history along the way; follow the gingerbread man across the planet at the Overboard, an attraction coming to life with handmade puppets and tones of cheerful music; or enjoy an informative factory tour, covering all from the growing to the processing and culminating with a tasting session.
The property’s focal point is The Ginger Kitchen, serving tasty dishes with locally sourced ingredients and ginger beer (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). For dessert or afternoon tea, try the signature ginger scones with ginger marmalade. Or, if you need to cool down, head over to the ice creamery.
Top off the outing by browsing the myriad products for sale in Ginger Town, a snug heritage-style village, and the Ginger Shop, strategically located just inside the park gate. You can expect to find treats ranging from that delicious ginger marmalade and gingerbread men to ginger cordial and, of course, ginger beer — plus many other ginger-themed items.
Ginger like a pro
Book the guided tour ahead to secure a convenient time slot. Snatching a bundle package (with several rides and/or experiences in one) can save you some bucks.
When to go? If you’re flexible, visit mid-week to inspect the factory at its height of production and enjoy the most restful vibe.
Getting to The Ginger Factory
Despite the Buderim origin (revealed by the company name), The Ginger Factory, since 1978, lies in another Sunshine Coast hinterland town, Yandina. Driving from Noosa or Mooloolaba takes roughly half an hour.
